With the iPhone X having been released to much fanfare, the phone immediately became a must-have item. Despite early stories suggesting that the phone is troubled with a crackling noise at high volumes, and that the facial recognition software can be gamed if you’re resourceful enough to wear a mask, it’s still highly sought-after by Apple fans.

As good as the X is, there are stories emerging that 2018 may be even more exciting for Apple fans. Rumours suggest the tech giant will be releasing not one, not two, but three new phones to market in 2018. As yet nothing is confirmed -- including names, or whether Siri is still a card -- but a memo that appears to have been leaked by a KGI Securities analyst suggests that exciting developments may be afoot.

Bye-Bye, Home Button?

If you like the FaceID function of the X, then Apple has some good news for you; it’s being rolled out as standard according to the memo. This means that the Home button is, at least for the time being, a thing of the past. It should also be expected that the reported issues with the early form of FaceID will have been ironed out by the time the new phones hit the market. One of the new models is thought to have a 5.8 inch display, so there’s plenty of room for the edge-to-edge functionality.

Talking of screens…

Biggest. Screen. Ever.

One of the most popular aspects of the iPhone X was the revolutionary new edge-to-edge display, and this will be included in the new phones. In fact, one model in particular is thought to house the biggest screen Apple have ever produced. It’s expected to measure 6.5 inches, which is fantastic news whether you’re using the phone to stream Netflix or play a few rounds of poker via Gambling Kingz. Early rumours suggest this mighty phone may be the Plus version of the X.

A Budget Option?

Among the headlines regarding the initial release of the iPhone X was its price tag - close to the four-figure mark, or about the price of a pretty high-spec laptop. While it offered plenty of functionality for that price, it did mean some people turned their nose up on the basis of expense. The third of the new phones listed in the leaked memo, however, has good news for the budget conscious. With this phone, the excellent, but expensive, OLED technology that is present in the X will be traded for an LCD screen - resulting in a phone that will still have an edge-to-edge display of around 6.1 inches, but will cost far less to buy.

Any More Information?

As this was not an official press release or an unveiling, the memo was light on details of new functions, but the “X Plus” and a new phone with a 5.8 inch screen are expected to be released together, while the LCD model will be released separately. Perhaps even more intriguingly, Apple is rumored to be working on a rear-facing 3D sensor with implications for augmented reality; while this is expected to be present on 2019 models, they’ve surprised us before, so we’ll see if it makes the cut for the 2018 releases.
