This gorgeous hotel, set in the German city of Offenburg has an interesting past that couldn't contrast more from its present state. The wonderfully designed and newly opened Hotel Liberty was once used as a prison after the French Revolution.

Now completely transformed, the hotel houses 38 rooms and suites that contain oak floors and beautiful handcrafted furniture, and interestingly enough, a fine dining restaurant called Wasser & Brot, which translates and references to the former inmate's diet of 'water & bread'.
