It would seem that it would be quite hard to improve on the touch screen experience we already have with modern day phones. The Microsoft Research team disagree, they've created technology that anticipates you touching the screen and gets the phone ready for your actions.
The team have been experimenting with something they call “pre-touch sensing,” which tracks your fingers as they hover over a display. The technology will obviously only be used in Windows phones to start with, but it should open a gateway to similar tech. The video below shows you everything you need to know.
