If you are a passionate diver or have always dreamed of being a fish, you will fall in love with Triton. It's a high-tech scuba mask that would allow you to breathe underwater without an oxygen tank.
The mask consists of two arms constructed to work as "gills" that extract oxygen from the water and conduct breathable air directly to diver's lungs. Device's arm are covered in small plastic scales that open up to let the water into a filtering chamber. Separated oxygen is compressed and stored temporarily in a built-in miniature tank. The compressor and the gills are powered by a state-of-art microbattery. Reportedly, it is is 30 times more compact than current off-the-shelf solutions and can charge 1000 times faster.
Triton is a perfect example of how technology can both simplify and enrich our lives easier. As of now, the mask is just a concept. However, Jeabyun Yeon, the designer, has high hopes that it will be turned into a commercial product one day. The idea is revolutionary and current-gen scuba gear could use a replacement, so we keep our fingers crossed for Triton.
