If you're not one of those people who prefer to place calls over the Internet, there's a good chance that dialer has a special spot on your smartphone's home screen. Cell phones may be getting more and more powerful year by year, but phone is still one of the most - if not the most - important apps they are equipped with. That little green or blue icon in the shape of an old-school headphone allows you to call your friends and family, hear their voices and tell them how you are.

All Android handsets come with a pre-installed dialer app. Usually it is quite good and offers all the necessary functionality, but since you probably use it every single day, you could've got bored of it and want to try something different. Fortunately, thanks to openness and flexibility of Android, you can replace it with a lighter, more powerful or simply prettier alternative.

PixelPhone

PixelPhone is a stunningly powerful phone application that offers extensive customization options and interesting features. It has an integrated phone book with favourites and groups tabs and a T9-based dialer that supports various gestures.

Moreover, PixelPhone is very smooth and fast. Opening it takes only a fraction of second and an ability to browse call history and apply themes is a welcome addition.

One of the fastest phone apps for Android. It sports a nice interface inspired by stock Android and offer a bunch of cool features, such as context aware suggestions. dialapp can be linked with your Google account to learn your location, time, calendar, conversations, etc. Then, it analyzes it to provide you with information or function. For example, on Friday evenings – when you’re most likely to go out - it puts your friends on top of the dialer list.

The app couldn’t be simpler, yet more functional at the same time.

RocketDial

Powerful dialer application with advanced features focused at contacts and events management. From within RocketDial you can create and delete groups, send a SMS or an e-mail to all members, set a group ringtone and view all shared events, such as birthdays and meetings.

As for other features, RocketDial supports a wide array of gestures (handwriting included) and comes with four dialpad styles and over 10 great skins to customize the interface.

KK Dialer

An application based on the official Android 4.4 KitKat dialer. Just like the original app, KK Dialer offers a sleek interface packed with beautiful animations and transitions. On top of that, there’s a built-in predictive search, call log and voice mail support. It allows you to change the phone ringtone, set a vibration or dial pad touch tones as well as use voice input.
