I'm sure when the first iPhone was released no one had any idea how popular it would be. Most phones back then had buttons and slid up or flipped open - remember the Samsung D900 and Nokia N95? There were many touch screen phones before the iPhone but when the iPhone launched, everyone ended up jumping on to the touchscreen bandwagon. The iPhone franchise is now the most popular in the world - but then the iPhone is the only phone that Apple makes. When it comes to total smartphone sales Samsung of course rules the roost.
