Charge Your Devices Without Even Touching Them With The "World's First" Contactless Charger

Just as everybody is getting more and more excited about the prospect of wirelessly charging their iPhones with AirPower (which looks like it may finally ship in March), there's a new Californian startup that looks like it could blow Apple's new charging mat out of the water.

Within a one-foot range the "Pi" can wirelessly and without any contact, charge your devices. The lampshade-looking device is the world's first contactless charger and is the invention of two MIT students; John MacDonald and Lixin Shi.

The device in itself is a pretty genius concept, and most certainly a breakthrough when it comes to charging our devices. The catch, however, is that you will need to fit your gadgets in "Pi"-designed protective cases for them to charge.
