DJI has yet again tightened its grip on the drone market by unveiling their latest product. The $799 Mavic Air fits right in between their cheapest model, the $399 Spark, and the $999 Mavic Pro.
Going on sale on January 28th, the Mavic Air folds up similarly to the Pro and is 41% lighter. The Air uses a 1/2.3-inch sensor that shoots 4K video at 24 or 30 frames per second, or 12-megapixel stills, all with a wide-angle 24mm f/2.8 lens. It can reach speeds of up to 45MPH and has a huge 2.5-mile range.
The Mavic Air contains an all-new 3-gimbal system and re-designed ventilation to keep it from over-heating.
Excitingly, DJI has promised all new software features to come packed with the Air, including, a 32-megapixel panorama option and better gesture controls. One of the only downsides to the Mavic Air is that the flight time is still only 21 minutes (five more than the Spark, but six short of the Mavic Pro).
