Eager to see what the future of video games will look like? Epic Games, the company behind one of the world's most powerful graphic engines, wants to give you a glimpse. The newly posted user-created technology demo of their Unreal Engine 4 proves that photorealistic games are not that far away.
Created by 3D artist and level designer Benoît Dereau and dubbed as "Unreal Paris", the demo truly lives up to its name. It takes you on a virtual tour through a 3D-modelled Parisian apartment. There are no swordfights and explosions, but the demo is simply beautiful. Visuals will take your breath away, especially the lighting and real-time shadow rendering.
Of course it will take several more years to put so much detail into games as big as Grand Theft Auto or Dragon Age, but at least we know it is possible. Now imagine what Unreal Engine 5 will be capable of!
