In this Photoshop tutorial I am going to walk you through a simple yet dramatic black and white photo filter tutorial which you can use for clients or personal use. This tutorial adds more contrast and brightness than traditional black and white effect tutorials. You will need a basic knowledge of Photoshop to follow along.
Start by choosing a high quality photo and rename it: 'image', before opening the file in Photoshop.
Next, press Control or Command > J to duplicate the image layer and rename this layer 'Blur'. Continue by clicking Filter > Blur > Box Blur, set the option to 2 pixels.
Once you have added the minor blur, create a new layer above the current image layers and rename it 'Black & White'. Then, simply set the foreground colour to #919191
On the new layer, change the layer style to Vivid Light. Next, add a new Fill Layer colour of #000000 and set the 'Blur' layer opacity to 40% for a sharper image. You're now finished with the dramatic black and white photo editing tutorial.
