There's always been some form of secrecy when it comes to how much some of the biggest YouTubers earn. The biggest YouTuber is PewDiePie, his real name is Felix Kjellberg. He is a 24 year old that lives in the south of London. He currently has over 27 million subscribers on YouTube and continues to be growing very quickly.
Felix revealed to Wall Street Journal that he is earning a whopping $4 million a year right now from YouTube in advertising, most of it being pure profit.
Even though Felix earns all of this money he seems to live an ordinary life like any other person, he is pretty humble about his success.
Felix rarely ever talks to the media and likes to keep himself to himself so speaking in a quick interview with Wall Street Journal just shows how grateful he is.
It's cool to have this kind of influence, but at the same time it's kind of scary.
Unlike many professionally produced shows, I think I've established a much closer contact with my viewers, breaking the wall between the viewer and what's behind the screen.
What I and other YouTubers do is a very different thing, it's almost like hanging around and watching your pal play games. My fans care in a different way about what they are watching.
I'm so central to YouTube now, and that puts me in the spotlight and raises a lot of questions like 'Why is he so big?'" he said. "I'd much rather prefer to have something like 5 million subscribers.
Felix has been on YouTube for five years now building his audience very slowly. Only in 2013 did he explode from three million to 18 million subscribers, propelling him to the top.
