Light Soil V2 is a beautiful single family house designed by studio De.materia. It is located near Poznań, Poland, and features a rare, but extremely beautiful combination of concrete, wood, and simple shapes.
If it hadn't be for garage that sits on top of the dwelling, we could say that it has only one floor. To get to the garage, one needs to use a driveway that approaches the house from behind and takes advantage of the uneven terrain. The back of the residence was built on a hillside, allowing the construction to blend seamlessly into the landscape.
The main structure is made of raw concrete, which gives it an interesting, rugged character. Thanks to wooden panels and large panoramic windows, the house feels very natural and unobtrusive, like an integral element of the surroundings. The interior is equally raw and simple. It puts function before form and features almost no ornamentation. The furniture is sparse and highlights the emptiness of concrete ceilings and naked flooring.
Light Soil V2 might have been designed to be built in Poland, but its modest and honest appearance makes it a perfect fit for a Scandinavian village or small town.
