Pocket is a read-it-later service for websites, links, images and videos. Over 800 million items have been saved to Pocket and additional 1.5 million are being saved every day. To celebrate this success, developers behind the service have launched the new Pocket 5.0 offering a range of new features and improvements.
One of the most important introductions is Highlights, a function that uses Pocket’s smart algorythms to feature the best and the most relevant content saved in your list. They are split into different categories for orderliness and accessibility: The Best (the most important items), Trending (the most popular and the most commonly shared items), Long Reads (long articles for reading when you have more free time) and Quick Reads (short stories for when you have only a few spare minutes). Highlights is a smart feature that learns when you use Pocket and offers dynamic categories to match your interests. On mobile, Highlights presents a selection of content recommendations.
As far as official applications are concerned, a few visual changes have been introduced to their interface. It has been simplified and equipped with new bigger tiles for easier access to videos and images. There’s also a new side navigation bar with shortcuts to Highlights, List, Tags, Favorites and Archive.
