The Villa Nilsson, located near the Swedish province of Scania, overlooks the Öresund strait and Denmark. The architectural interplay between nature and building materials is stunning.
On the ground floor, a hybrid kitchen-dining room setup and an expansive pool deck. The kitchen uses wide floorboards cut by Dinensen – a Danish firm specialising in flooring – and an island in the middle. The dining room has a lengthy space meant for a dining table surrounded by large windows for natural light to flow in. The deck uses wooden slats as flooring for the meditative courtyard while a cast mosaic pool takes up the rest of the space.
The second story houses bedrooms and a leaking roof allowing for an unrestricted view of the water. Glass sliding doors and various types of local greenery surround the house on all sides. Using a neutral colour palette, the designers effectively made the house seem large, unobtrusive, and welcoming.
