Facebook Messenger app for Android and iOS has received a major redesigned interface and improved functionality. It looks simpler and cleaner now, fitting iOS 7 and Android's latest design guidelines. It seems that Mark Zuckerberg's team has put a lot of effort to differentiate Messenger from the standard Facebook app and emphasise messaging features. The app is faster and more reliable and allows users to send messages to non-friends, as well as those who have shared their phone numbers.
Facebook probably couldn't have chosen a better moment to redesign their Messenger app. With an advantage of one billion users, the social network doesn't have to worry about popularity, yet it is facing strong competition from WhatsApp, Viber, Line and other services that have substantially grown in the past years.
The new update will be rolling out in the coming weeks. Messenger for Android update will be available to select users immediately, and iOS users will receive the revamped version later.
