Sony have just announced a set of two new accessories that are essentially cameras without screens, Sony are calling them lenses. The QX100 and the QX10 are lenses that can wirelessly connect to your smartphone and be operated from it.
They can simply hook onto the back of your smartphone or be used completely wirelessly for those high quality selfies you've always wanted to take.
The QX100 is the more powerful of the two. It has a 1-inch 20-megapixel 'Exmor R' CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. The lens also has an optical zoom of up to 3.6x. It weighs 179g and is expected to cost around £400.
The QX10 is the cheaper one is aimed much more at the average consumer. It has a 1/2.3-inch 18-megapixel 'Exmor R' CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/3.3. But it does beat the QX100 when it comes to optical zoom as it goes all the way up to 10x. It weights a much lighter 105g and is expected to cost around £180.
This idea of a lens that large that attaches to your camera is a bit crazy but can at the same time work out pretty well. It saves having to buy a camera and you end up using your large smartphone screen as the viewfinder. With the wireless functionality, you can basically place the lens anywhere providing it's in connecting distance.
