One of the major problems with Android is that apps aren't designed very well, there's no denying it. The most useful apps always seem to have a bad design or are just stuck in the past. It's a huge shame with how big Android is.
When Android 4.0 ICS was introduced, Google also introduced a design trend, a trend they wanted developers to follow to make apps look more consistant throughout the OS. They called this design trend "Holo".
This is what Apple did with iOS, it's why many iOS apps have the same kind of style but with different colours and textures.
AndroidUIPatterns compiled a great list of apps which have been redesigned to adapt the new Holo trend. We'll share some of them here and I'll share some others I've found. Also included will be some random apps which use the Holo theme.
So as you can see there are quite a few Holo themed redesigns there. Unfortunately many Android developers just think that if the app works that that's enough. They don't understand that if they were to hire a proper designer to design their app it would become a whole lot more popular.
If you're an Android developer please hire a UI designer to design your app for you. Your app will inevitably become a lot more popular if the design was spot on and the app does what it says.
