SAOTA just completed another great project in Johannesburg, South Africa. The design of the house required two sites for construction; which were later bridged together to make a U-shaped configuration around an internal courtyard. Each room, from the game room to the kitchen, is connected back to the main courtyard, which in turn leads back to the living spaces. There is a set of extremely large shutters, specifically created for protection from the setting sun. The designers included a swimming pool near the internal courtyard; ready for any occasion.
The interior of the house uses a neutral palette of colors, effectuating a sense of sharp edges and class; especially in the living room. Sliding walls have become a very common feature in SAOTA's projects, some of which have been featured here on UltraLinx, because it increases versatility. There's also an extremely nice ribbon staircase that leads to the upper floors near the living spaces. The staircase provides an effective transition from the upstairs and downstairs without drawing too much attention.
