CyanogenMod is the über-popular after market firmware distribution available on dozens of Android devices. It brings a host of new features, enhancing a largely stock Android experience. With a mass launch of the ninth version of the custom ROM nearing, the Cyanogen team set out to design a new logo, asking the talented Cyanogen fanbase to submit their own designs.
On April 3rd, the team released prototype variations of the new logo, the initial design being created by Cyanogen fan Caio Alves.
After further tweaks to Alves' design, the final mascot is here. Introducing Cid, the new face of Cyanogen!
Cid (Pronounced: /si:d/), an acronym for Cyanogen Mod ID, was designed to be more "adult-like" and physically it has achieved that purpose. Cid is much taller than the previous mascot, Andy, and has also gained somewhat of a personality with its multiple expressions. Memoirs to the old mascot are thrown in, in the form of the classic skateboard (which now seems a little small) and antennae!
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the new logo. Something about the eyes doesn't seem right and I feel Cid is a little too human. Additionally, Cyanogen Mod seems to have lost the cyan, switching it out for a calmer petrol blue shade - that just doesn't make any sense.
Cid or Andy? Battle it out in the comments below!
