The New iPad 3 – The Basics

Apple have at last unveiled the new iPad, literally. They aren’t calling it the iPad 3 or the iPad 2S, just “The new iPad”. I’m guessing the reason Apple didn’t call it the iPad 3 was because there is not much improvement compared to the iPad 2.

What’s new?

The new features compared to the iPad 2:

  • New Retina display. Resolution of 2048×1536
  • New A5X chip, with quad core graphics processor
  • New 5MP rear facing camera
  • Nearly double the size battery to still last 10 hours to cope with the new display

Those are literally only the main things to be updated on the iPad. However to add these features, Apple has had to make “The new iPad” thicker and heavier than the iPad 2 which is definitely a downfall.

Core apps have also been updated to match the new retina display. The new core apps will obviously also be available on previous iPads.

The biggest and most wanted feature though is the new Retina display. It’s been anticipated ever since the launch of the iPhone 4. Everyone wanted it in the iPad 2. The Retina display on the iPhone 4S is incredible so inevitably it will be amazing on the new iPad.
