The Sony Xperia Sola is a mid range Xperia phone, set to be released in Q2 2012. The Sola should fit right in with the Xperia P and U as well as the high-end Xperia S; it sharing the same external design aesthetics.
Well, why buy this over the Xperia P, U or S?
The Sola will include a new piece of technology called ‘Floating Touch’. This allows users to control the phone without physically touching the screen, hovering above is enough. This is especially useful because it will allow you to use your finger more like a cursor and thus browse webpages exactly how they are designed for desktop browsers.
The phone will also support Sony’s ‘SmartTags’, NFC tags which make the phone perform a certain action.
Unfortunately, the Xperia Sola will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread – not the latest iteration of Android. While this is a shame, and certainly doesn’t help the effort to minimise Android OS fragmentation, an update to Ice Cream Sandwich has been planned for summer 2012.
