Flappy Bird Is Making $50k A Day, Let Me Repeat, $50,000 EVERY DAY

Flappy Bird has become a viral success. The ridiculously simple, very annoying and highly addictive game has been a hit and has been sitting at the top of the Play Store and App Store for a month now.

The developer, Dong Nguyen, revealed to TheVerge that the game is making him a whopping $50,000 every day. All of that income is coming purely from ads placed in the app. The game itself is free to download and play.

Funnily enough the game actually launched nearly a year ago on the App Store, it got a few downloads but went dead. Then suddenly it rose back up and has now been downloaded over 50 million times.

Usually mobile app studios spend a lot of money and time coming up with viral games and apps, but Dong only spent a few nights after coming home from work. He never in his wildest dreams imagined his little game would become a huge success.

For those who don’t know what Flappy Bird is – you simply tap the screen to keep a bird aloft and navigate your way through the level by going in between tunnels. But it is very hard to even get past the first set of tunnels and it’s been deliberately made that way. It makes you want to tell your friends about how frustrating it is, you then end up competing against them, trying to get the highest score. It’s just like how Temple Run was when it was a viral success.

It’s so simple and basic, yet that’s what has made it so successful. It’s one of those games you can very quickly jump into, play with one hand and just kill a few minutes with.
