The $99 Nokia Asha 501 Is Beautiful

I love and hate Nokia at the same time. I hate them because they didn’t choose Android and I love them because they still make some of the prettiest phones around.

Today they’ve announced the new Nokia Asha 501. This isn’t a featurephone or a smartphone – it’s kind of in between. It runs Nokia’s own version of software they’re calling Asha. It features a 3-inch 320×240 screen, MicroSD card slot and two SIM card slots (depending on country) which are hot-swappable. Weirdly though, it doesn’t have 3G, yet it does have WiFi. It does have a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back.

This phone isn’t targeted at countries like the US and UK. Instead it’s targeted at countries like India, where it’ll be launching first. It’ll only cost $99.

But boy is this phone pretty. It’s easily more prettier than most of the smartphones you see today. You have to wonder why the leading smartphone makers can’t make their phones this good looking.
