Let me tell you, Ubisoft sure does know how to pick their actors. First, they have Michael Fassbender (Prometheus,Shame) playing the lead role in the Assassin's Creed film and now they went and got Tom Hardy, most recently seen playing Bane in the Dark Knight Rises, to play our green goggle wearing Sam Fisher according to a report from Variety.
There's no studio for the film yet, but they do have Eric Warren, who wrote The International back in 2009, writing the script which is also more good news!
"Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "His involvement in the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and ... we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story ... while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."
Yes, we know; video game films usually aren't the best. However, with smaller budget miniseries such as Halo: Forward Unto Dawn being done incredibly well, this could be the a new era of video game films and we can finally have studios stop making those God awful Resident Evil films.
