So, here’s something completely out of left field! Nintendo is releasing a brand new Wii console, dubbed the “Wii Mini” on December 7th . Yes, the new Wii U was just released so of course we’re all scratching our heads as to why they would release a new version of an old console hot on the heels of the new Wii U.
The console was previously a rumor thanks to an ad that was released by a Canadian Best Buy retailer online. It didn’t take long (ten seconds) before Nintendo made the official announcement. The entirely new redesigned console will be released with a red Wii Remote Plus and red Nunchuck for the low price of $99. The Wii Mini will work with “most” accessories, won’t play GameCube games, and doesn’t have internet functionality. The console will also play over 1,400 disc-based Wii titles and you can expect all the heavy hitters (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc…) to be part of that line up.
Though there are some features taken away from the slim red device, for $99, I wouldn’t complain too much at all and it’s just in time for the holidays (if you live in Canada). Head over to the official site to get more information on the console.
Also, Nintendo totally dropped the ball on the name of the console. Nintendo “Wii Minii” is clearly what it’s meant to be name. They should hire me, pronto.
