Hiren Patel Architects designed this awesome house in Gujarat, India. For those that don’t know, Ahmedabad has scorching summers, so the architects calculated the angle of the sun during the middle of the day and attempted to block it using 7 ft overhangs around the house. The whole courtyard is built around the buddha statue, which was specially put on a raised platform to emphasize a sense of privacy. Hiren created clerestory windows in the master bedroom to make sure the residents wake up at the crack of dawn. He openly stated “If one is exhausted enough, light makes no difference.” The clear water reflecting pools were originally meant for show, but children starting jumping in them, so they were modified to second as swimming pools. The master bedroom is very minimal, with a platform bed and an extra seating area.
