Google has just added a new SEO feature to enable news sites to tag their articles. They announced the new feature on their blog and laid down an example on how it would work.
In 1929 when the stock market crashed newspapers used the headline “WALL ST. LAYS AN EGG”. Now us humans can clearly understand what the headline means and what it’s referring to. However machines won’t have a clue what you’re talking about.
Titles like this are a dime of a dozen. People who are into SEO will know that a title like “Wall Street Stock Market Crashes” will be a lot better title because Google will understand it, and when people search for it they’ll be lead to that article.
Google is now enabling news sites to use titles like “WALL ST. LAYS AN EGG”, but to help the search engine understand what the article is all about, you now add a new meta tag to the post.
So if your post is about the Wall Street stock market crash you can use something like - <meta name=”news_keywords” content=”Wall, Street, stock, market, crash, 1929″>
As you can see the new tag is “news_keywords”. Using this tag will now enable news sites to be better understood and for them to appear for related articles in the news section of Google.
